The mission of the TNCEP program is to empower limited-resource families to:
• Reduce the risk of poor nutrition
• Effectively use food stamps and related resources
• Move toward self-sufficiency

TNCEP provides hands-on teaching programs so TNCEP families and children can learn:
• Wise food choices
• Healthy cooking practices
• Food safety
• Good health practices
• Family wellness
• Disease control
• Smart shopping skills
• Money management

The TNCEP Coalition is made up of stakeholders in the county. They work with county teachers, commodity distributors, health department personnel, county officials, DHS, other Extension personnel, and others to provide nutrition education within the county to limited resource families.

TNCEP (Tennessee Nutrition and Consumer Education Program) provides samples of commodity foods used in great recipes at the quarterly commodity distribution. They also produce and distribute a booklet containing recipes using the foods to be distributed and information on food safety or health.

Last year the TNCEP Coalition conducted 3 Food Fiestas, one at each county elementary school, reaching about 350 students with nutrition information.

The Coalition provides educational materials to county schools and head start. It works with the Family Resource Center, Adult Basic Education and Families First students.

> BLEDSOE COUNTY FAMILY AND COMMUNITY EDUCATION CLUBS
Contact: Jan Williams
Last year, more than 14,000 FCE club members contributed over 139,000 volunteer hours and generated over $199,000 for club projects designed to improve the quality of life for their fellow community members. If you have thought about being a part of an organization or group that is family and community oriented consider joining a Bledsoe County FCE Club. We have six clubs that meet in different communities throughout the county and welcome visitors and new members all year. Some meet during the day and some in the evenings. Clubs hold monthly meetings and participate in community service projects throughout the year. Members are encouraged to be community volunteers and county leaders. FCE Clubs strongly promote family values, reading, writing and learning new information and skills.

Each club choices its own community projects to become involved in. We learn about and visit places of interest in our state or adjoining states. Most of our club members are also members of the “older generation” but young at heart and always reaching out for new knowledge and experiences. We have a wealth of knowledge and experience between us to share with our community and a desire to improve our county and share the beauty and wealth of our area with family and friends. We would love for anyone interested in this type of organization to visit one of our club meetings or activities. Our clubs are not very large but we do make a difference in our communities.

If you aren’t familiar with Family Community Education Clubs we invite you to call our office at 447-2451 for more information.
